“A plague o' both your houses!” It’s Wednesday, June 28,
2017 and that’s how I feel. When Romeo tries to break up a fight between Tybalt
and Mercutio in Act 3, Scene One, of Shakespeare’s famous play, he winds up
getting Mercutio stabbed and uttering the famous curse on both parties.
I haven’t tried to break up any fight between political
parties, but on some days, I feel the need to cast a curse on both: the one who
came to power by urging people to hate the former president and the one who
wants to regain power by urging people to hate the new president.
These carryings on have just made us all hate one another.
That’s what bothers me today.
On those days I remember the Tony Soprano’s famous misattribution,
“Why can’t we do like Dr. Rodney King said and all just get along?”
The problem I see with all this squabbling is that it allows
the political termites to chew away our moral foundations without being noticed,
or challenged.
For example, have you heard about the latest plans for “regime
change” in the middle east? Probably not, it is hidden away behind our concerns
over who uses what bathroom, where religious symbols can go, and whether there
is any spot in this great land where carrying a firearm would not be
appropriate.
But, back to regime change in the Middle East. That’s worked
out real well in the past, now hasn’t it? When the Draft Board comes for the
children, let’s remember all the fights we had over things we will no longer
remember.
We're being set up. Feels like the Gulf of Tonkin story all over again. Check out Seymour Hirsch's expose of the "Syrian chemical weapons attack that wasn't." This morning's news says we're ramping up for another bombing run on a Syrian air base because it looks like the Syrians may be doing again what they didn't do previously.
ReplyDeleteThis nation is a bus careening down a mountain road with a blind nan at the wheel. Our professional military and State Department have their feet on the gas, Congress is in the back playing poker and the press is pointing in every direction saying "look over there. Shiny thing! Pay no attention to the erratic driving and the weird noises the bus is making."
Hell of a ride.
